Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. Invisalign braces work in a unique way. The plastic trays that are created are designed to be swapped out every few weeks. A great number of people report complete satisfaction with both the Invisalign® treatment and the stunning results.
Invisalign® corrects the same dental problems as traditional metal braces. Invisalign can fix problems such as overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, cross bite, overbite and under bite.
Traditional dental braces, Invisalign® aligning trays and dental veneers are three different ways to perfect the alignment of the teeth. While veneers are certainly an option for improving your smile, they only cover up certain dental imperfections, rather than correct them.
Invisalign® differs from traditional braces in that the aligning trays are fully removable. This means that more discipline and commitment is required from the patient. This is not usually a problem since the trays are comfortable and nearly invisible. Almost identical results can be obtained by using either treatment.
During your first appointment, the alignment of your teeth and bite will be carefully evaluated to determine how to best move forward with treatment. Then an impression is taken of your teeth to examine any problem areas. The dentist then maps out your Invisalign® treatment, including how many aligners will be needed, how long each one must be worn, and the length of overall treatment. Each aligner is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of the treatment plan. The total amount of aligners required varies with each individual case, but 20-29 sets per arch is typical.
Generally, each aligner should be worn for approximately two weeks before switching to the next one in the series. Each set of aligners gently moves your teeth one step closer to their optimal position until you develop a beautiful, healthy smile. You should wear the aligners as often as possible – between 22 and 24 hours is recommended. The aligners are specially made to be comfortable and removable for easy brushing, flossing, and eating. The trays are virtually invisible when worn, so others won’t even notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
